Week 10 Summary

Well the progress in LAC 172 has definitely been forward!!! My comfort level is higher with trying to figure things out when I hit a road block. I have made distinct improvements in navigating the internet, in preparing power point presentations, and also with increased terminology as it relates to technology. It's almost like a separate culture in some ways -- like being dropped in China when one doesn't speak Chinese or know the customs. However, through the process of immersion (and practice with technology) ones becomes not only more comfortable but more proficient. So, my comfort level has increased, my understanding improved, and my proficiency is higher but would still like it to be better, which means more practice. The "muddy points" are usually pretty simple things like
  • bookmarks
  • file extensions
  • taking things from the internet to insert in documents
  • headers/footers
  • spreadsheet functions
I also am excited to continue to learning and appreciate a bit more understanding about the risks of the connected world we live in, as well as the rewards and ways it can make our lives more efficient.

I leave the class with a sense of satisfaction combined with a desire to continue learning and the distinct reality the my computer proficiency has significantly improved. I am confident that were I to take the test now I would pass, so mission accomplished!!!

Thank you - and all the best as the class continues to evolve!

Outcome

LLA1: Identify and appropriately utilize content from the Internet, digital media, software applications, and hardware systems and tools to address academic, professional, and everyday tasks and problems. Demonstrate an understanding of and ability to respond to the benefits and risks of applied technology, including networked computing, ethics, and personal security in an

When looking at the desired outcome for this class I would set forth the following; 1) I am able to utilize more content from the Internet, but could still use more practice. I also am aware of some of the risks and the ease at wish one can put content out there. I am more discerning. 2) My digital media skills have improved a great deal, but again need more practice. 3) I have become more familiar with some applications, including power points and spread sheets, and feel capable of navigating questions or hurdles as they come up now. Will continue to utilize these applications and become more proficient. I really don't feel like I gained much understanding of networked computing. All total, I definitely gained some computer expertise in various capacities. I need to continue working on much of the same to become more proficient. The pace of the class and the variety of material covered was significant. Perhaps I would feel more proficient if we had covered less but whatever we covered do so more thoroughly.

LAC 172

Most proud accomplishment the last 8+ weeks from Computer Literacy - WOW what a tough question. I suppose I would say my general "comfort" level with navigating the web as well as becoming more familiar with many technology terms (including blogging) and working on the power point presentation and spread sheet. However, that being said, I still don't really feel proficient at anything!!!! I am generally more knowledgeable and capable of figuring things out. I definitely would like and need more practice at everything though, which I intend to continue. I also really enjoyed the new awareness of how many opportunities their are that are both fun and relatively simple -- like Storybird. Although the pace was very fast, I definitely benefited from the class and am more proficient.
